Building our service legacy for over 90 years

Established in 1931 by RW Menzies at Craigfoot Quarry in Tillicoultry, Tillicoultry Quarries identified the need for construction materials to be supplied to the local market. Now, nearly ninety years on, the business supplies materials throughout the UK and is one of the largest suppliers of quarry materials in Scotland, developing a reputation for quality products and service excellence.

Tillicoultry Quarries is still family owned and people driven. The company continues to grow, building on its successes, and transforming the supply and delivery of aggregates and other construction material through its investments in plant, equipment and people.

From its small beginnings in Craigfoot Quarry, the business now has 29 quarries and plants, with an asphalt production capacity of over 2,500 tonnes per hour. Tillicoultry Quarries has proven itself to be a consistent and reliable supplier of choice, through the production of a wide range of quality assured materials and service excellence. Products include aggregates, asphalts, ready-mixed concretes, sand and gravel.

Integrated within its quarrying operations, are eight coating plants and 15 concrete plants, which are capable of producing materials to the highest required specification for large volume motorway construction projects through to small volume private works. No matter the volume of materials required, Tillicoultry Quarries ensures that every customer receives high quality products to their particular specification, delivered with service excellence.

Being family owned and people driven, investment does not stop at plant and machinery for Tillicoultry Quarries. We believe successful businesses need highly qualified, dedicated and professional people. The business continually invests in its over two hundred strong work force, with over 90% of our team having achieved NVQ Level 2 or higher. We value our people, and they truly are dedicated to the business, with the average length of service being well over a decade.

Like other businesses, we make big stones into little stones. However, our record of product quality and customer service speaks for itself. We have invested in growing sustainably, refining our products and delivery chain to ensure we can be there for you when you need us. We’re independent and provide our customers with a reliable and efficient service. We started in Tillicoultry to service the local market.  Today, we’re so much more than a local company - we are one of the largest suppliers of asphalt in Central Scotland. We’re at the forefront when it comes to quality and service, but all whilst retaining our commitment to our customers and the communities we operate within.

Environment

We manage our business operations responsibly, recycling materials to minimise our impact on the environment. From initial application for a site to the end of use of a quarry, Tillicoultry Quarries takes its responsibility to the environment and local communities very seriously.

For our team, minimising impact on the environment is never an afterthought. Our aim is to ensure our operations have minimal negative environmental impact during works, and we have an ongoing policy of reinstating spent areas back to agricultural land.

We operate Asphalt recycling plants at Tulliallan, Newtongrange, Clydebridge, Tams Loup and Northfield where bituminous materials are crushed and screened to produce Recycled Asphalt Planings (RAP). We’re proud to be a market leader in the recycling of bituminous materials, recycling both hot macadams and environmentally friendly cold lay products.

We operate aggregate recycling plants at Tulliallan, Northfield and Tams Loup. Materials arising, received from local authorities and other contractors, are recycled through our modern washing and screening plants to produce a range of recycled single sized aggregates and washed fines, all of which can be utilised to replace a full range of virgin aggregates.
